Differin is a type of tretinoin so this recommendation is for basically any tretinoin, including Differin. After 15 years of using tretinoin and experiencing redness, rash and bumps, I decided to actually listen to my derm and take her advice which is this: never apply Differin immediately after washing face. You MUST wait at least 20 minutes.
For Acne: “I am a 22 year old male, I have mild to moderate acne mostly on my chin but very few on my cheeks and forehead, decided to start using differin along side with benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. At first I started using 10%, it burned my face completely so I stopped using it immediately.
Differin Gel, which was first approved as a prescription drug in 1996, contains an acne-fighting retinoid called adapalene, which treats two causes of acne (clogged pores and inflammation).
Differin Gel is a prescription strength retinoid acne treatment that, until recently, you needed a prescription to get. Now, you can order a 60-day supply for $25 over the counter. My dermatologist recommended it to me as a common workaround for a nearly identical prescription that typically retails for $233.

My Differin Review For those who don’t know, Differin is now an over-the-counter acne treatment. Before, you needed a prescription through a doctor’s office, but now it’s available at places like Target, Walmart, and Amazon.

It reduces total acne count faster, has improved local tolerability (i.e. not as irritating — less itching, burning, redness), and has better light stability! (4) Tretinoin is notorious for being an unstable little sissy that degrades in light.
Differin Adapalene Gel is one of the best solutions for acne. It offers lots of benefits, but it also has some fair share of side effects. To determine if this topical treatment is suitable for you, ask for your dermatologist’s advice first.
